It’s looking more and more like Lazurus’s Eye is going to be the first book ready to go from Moby’s! Media, and it’s all because of the artist, Gregory Woronchak.

Gregory was like a machine turning in pages. He caught me off guard one morning, causing me to forget my normal, civil filter. I’d like to say I said ‘Holy Cow!’, but what I actually said involved product from a cow. I am really, really hoping this one gets the blessing of the Kickstarter gods because I want to make a second and third issue.

More to come…

I blame the Avengers for Sissone. You see, the first book into production was Dr. Fizz, and that one is set in a great city called Grand City, and in Grand City there are a lot of superheroes. Tons of them, some more legit than others.

So, I figured it would be cool to have a sort of companion to Dr. Fizz running around Grand City, and they could occasionally cross paths, maybe be the Grand City Avengers or some such. So I came up with a story concept, but no particular superhero to play the part. I believe the idea centered around his ‘powers’ being somehow embarrassing, thus causing a rift between him and his girl. Somehow I ended up pitching this to Lee Newman and, from some sick corner of his mind, he came back a day later ready to write about a superhero with the power of…Ballet Dancing.

I know what you are thinking, I was too at first. But then I read the four page treatment Lee had produced and nearly fell over laughing. It was a great character, and sure enough his ‘power’ was causing his personal life some grief. I shared the four pages with three people, and it was unanimous…they wanted to see more of this Sissone guy.

The project is ready to begin after the New Year I think. We have the script and the artist picked out, so for now we are just going to take a last look at the characters before we begin. I’ll be sure to post some characters for you when we have them locked down.

For Spook Town we decided to go with black and white and eventually settled on artist J.C. Grande, a veteran artist with great credentials under his belt. Below are the character designs he sent for the book. I got to say I think they look fantastic. More to come!

This one is a bit different. Perhaps I should first just tell you that the last part of this post over at the main site, mobys.ws, is about this project. Just follow the link and start at the part where it says, “And Then Depression Sets In…”.

While it started a bit off, as that post describes, what I left out was that one writer, Becca Lee Gardner, rose above the rest and delivered a full script, on spec, only a day or two later. It was a great script and I of course bought it after a minimal amount of time dithering. I found an artist and he has delivered a few pages, but the project seems to be stalled at this point. Spook Town is the second script I have from David Thomas, a talented writer from Wales. The first script we worked on together, something of mine, but this one was all his. I still remember reading it for the first time, it just popped. It’s got a great little twist, a subtle thing.

Spook Town is a 1940’s style detective story, set in a rainy and dreary place called Raven’s Black City. Yet there’s one small dark detail to the story: Vampires run the place.
