So much has been happening, and so little. So far the Kickstarter for Sissonne failed to fund, and the soft release for Lazurus’s Eye was a disappointment. The official release has done a bit better, but more on that later. The thing to know is that we plan to have a series of Kickstarters after the New Year, and of course one of those will be for Spook Town.

So far we have the artwork for FOUR issues completed, and three of those four lettered. That’s huge. The only reason we don’t have even more is because of the backlog in stuff getting Kickstarted. Still, here is the best update I can give you at the moment for Spook Town.

The Ever Evolving Logo

I got tired of two things pretty quick while hiring people to make a logo for me. One was the cost, the other thing, quite frankly, were the logos themselves. Uninspired, nipples missing…just turrible. So we’ve had some work on and off on the logo for Spook Town. At first we decided in a seaside font, for it’s 1940’s feel, but then later decided to add some imagery/design to make it pop out a bit against the rest of the line art on the mostly black and white covers we plan to keep using.

And here it is on the first couple of covers, both by JC Grande.

Writer David Thomas is still busy working on new scripts for this ongoing series. We really, really have high hopes for this one. The concept is just brilliant and we can see that it should have a very good chance, given some good word of mouth, to reach a large audience. Time will tell.

Feel free to let us know what you think of the logo, or the covers.

When I said I really needed to do a bunch of updates, I wasn’t kidding. Spook Town creator and writer David Thomas has already completed the scripts for issues #3 and #4, and the plan is to just keep the train rolling and start getting #3 going right away. Artist JC Grande is so great to work with, and the artwork is perfect for the book.

Here is a sample from issue #2, titled ‘Burn It All Down’. This is technically a ‘penciled proof’. We should have the finished pages any day now, and hopefully another cover to share soon. Yay!

Letterer Greg Deng is currently working on Lazurus’s Eye but should soon be able to move to Spook Town. There is no real hurry other than to finalize each book for it’s future Kickstarter, but it’s still nice to see each one move that one bit closer to completion.

We have one cover from the artist on the book, J. C. Grande. That cover is also in line to be completed; we are still locking in a final logo and such. I’d like to get one more cover done as well, it’s good to have more choices and people seem to like having a variant so long as they don’t get out of hand. Continue reading »

Artist JC Grande has delivered the inked proofs for the entire book! Now it’s a quick check to see if we need any changes and then on to the lettering!

I must say that this is a great moment for me as a publisher. Gregory Woronchak has delivered the entire Lazurus’s Eye book, but we are currently having it colored. This one was planned all along as a Black & White book, so it is actually in the lead in that sense, and the first ready for lettering.

Publishing comics has been quite an experience already, and I have yet to actually finish and release the first book. I do concepts, get the ball rolling and then rely on these talented people like Gregory and JC to bring the vision to life. I do however plan to be involved in the design of the finished product and the logo work, etc. So now I actually need to get off my ass and make this book happen. Continue reading »
